'Bluebirds' was written by Paul Simmonds and recorded at a lovely seaside studio in Rottingdean with Dan Swift ( Snow Patrol, Aqualung ) at the desk controls. I had always thought that Ron Sexsmith's warm and intimate vocals would be perfect for the track and I pitched the idea at him completely on spec and more in hope than in expectation. When he replied that he was happy to sing with me I was beyond delighted! I think it's worked a treat and i hope you do too...
'Matty Groves', 'Jolene' and 'Sheffield Apprentice' are all home recordings with live vocals that i taped between 2006 and 2008 as i re-discoved that traditional and rootsy music of my childhood and youth. I've left them exactly as they were on the day of recording and i think all four tracks blend together to represent the twisting paths of love and passion..
